Pangolins

Our latest adventure, “Matriarch Lost,” has an encounter with a pangolin. Coincidentally, when I was scrolling through Netflix and saw a documentary about pangolins, I had to turn it on.

This short documentary depicts conservation workers' struggle to defend these vulnerable creatures from illegal poaching. All species of Pangolins have been hunted for their scales, which are often used in Chinese folk medicine.
With no ability to defend themselves, the work of conservationists is vitally important to the survival of the species. This is doubly true when considering how difficult it is for pangolins to survive outside after being rescued from poachers.
The amount of work that goes into protecting pangolins is immense. Miraculously, Kulu’s story is one of success. Many pangolins do not survive reintegration into their natural environments. To add insult to injury, pangolins are one of the most trafficked mammals on Earth.
Much of the reason that these animals are hunted is for their scales. Pangolins' scales are used in traditional eastern medicine, most, if not all, of which have no medicinal properties. These animals, like so many others, are hunted and killed for no benefit to humanity.
As it was stated in the documentary, “that if such a special creature like a pangolin
is lost, it symbolises the way we treat everything.” I’ve been reflecting on this a lot. What does it say about us if we drive animals to extinction that have no value to us or any way to defend themselves?

Nature has inherent value, and the lives of these animals have value. They need our protection. We need to strive to protect them, and we need to support those groups, like Pangolarium, who have made it their mission to protect our most vulnerable species.
We here at CWG care immensely about animal conservation. I cannot put into words how sad and angry the merciless and pointless killings of animals make me, personally. This is why I wrote "Matriarch Lost". It was my way of trying to raise awareness, my way of trying to say, "hey, this is happening, and it isn't right."
As a small team, there is little we can do, but CWG is trying to do everything we can. In our most recent adventure, Matriarch Lost, we ask that instead of spending money on that product, please donate to animal conservation. We would rather see more support for pangolins, elephants, and all the amazing creatures of our world than see a single dime on our products.
Before we can truly understand the Animal Kingdom, we must first learn to respect all of the sentient beings that exist within it
